It’s A Tough Hiring Market
Do you know a recent grad looking for a job? It’s especially tough right now — the hardest hiring market in a decade (outside of the pandemic).
You can help.
Here are some ways to guide and support the young people in our lives as they search:
Resumes = one page. No exceptions.
Interview focus. Speak mostly to the role at hand. Long-term goals matter but hiring managers want to know you’re ready to learn and deliver on their role now.
Be authentic. Relying too much on AI in interviews risks presenting a version of yourself that doesn’t match who you truly are. When that gap becomes clear to a manager after hiring, it can create real challenges for both sides.
Check your role. If you’ve been helping for a while, consider whether fresh guidance could help — introduce them to a colleague, friend, or coach.
Note learnings. Every interview offers a takeaway. Encourage tracking them -- it sharpens prep for the next interview and reinforces the value of each step in their journey.
And when the job search ends — as it will — encourage your grad to pay it forward by opening doors for others, mentoring, and when they are on the other side of the interview table, bringing respect and fairness to every hiring process.
