Talent Development for All

Two Men Discussing Talent Development

Have you ever had one of those projects that felt incredibly daunting and then…the ah ha moment hits, revealing a clear path forward?

One such project for me was how to develop talent across the organization. Specifically, how to engage managers at all levels to give serious thought and clear direction to each member of their team, so they could grow and enhance their skill sets.

Clarity came as I thought about separating these growth discussions from the annual review process and:

  • giving managers a simple but powerful format to guide their thinking on their team members,

  • providing coaching tools so managers felt equipped to deliver impactful plans in their 1:1 discussion meetings, and

  • setting the stage at a company level for this to be a positive initiative intended for everyone’s personal, professional benefit.

While the project was difficult for me at first, the talent development program emerged and became one of the company’s most impactful programs ever implemented. Simply put, employees dug into their plans…and began growing. And year after year there was positive feedback from employees and managers alike, demonstrating team engagement and commitment to the process of growth.

When personal, professional growth is a focus, everyone wins.
