Reflections On Year One
As 2024 comes to a close, I am reflecting on the inaugural year of Horace Street Consulting (HSC) with gratitude and excitement for what’s ahead. It’s been a year of learning, growth, and connection.
With Angela Aman, Kilroy CEO
Launching HSC
First and foremost, I am beyond thankful to the clients who placed their trust in HSC during this first year. Their confidence means so much to me. Special thanks go to:
Angela Aman at Kilroy Realty: It was a privilege to reconnect and work with Angela as she joined Kilroy and stepped into her CEO role.
Jim Taylor and Shea Taylor at Brixmor Property Group whose support was instrumental in helping me get HSC off the ground. (And theirs is still the craziest coincidence of last names in the industry!)
Leaders at Urban Edge: My thanks for welcoming me into their circle. Collaborating with this team has been very rewarding.
Nareit: Engaging with old friends and meeting new folks through Nareit was also a highlight.
Lessons Learned in 2024
This year has been filled with valuable lessons and moments of growth.
Leadership Insights: After spending over two decades at my previous company, I’ve now had the privilege of collaborating with other leadership teams. Being part of discussions where goals, culture, priorities, risks, and opportunities are carefully balanced has been eye-opening and rewarding.
Stepping Into the Spotlight: Transitioning from a role where I supported the voices of others—like a CEO—to becoming the voice of HSC has felt significant. Sharing my thoughts, experiences, and photos on LinkedIn felt pretty terrifying at first, but the process has been both essential and rewarding.
The Power of Referrals: I found it super fulfilling to connect talented individuals from my network with client requests when my own schedule could not accommodate. Client collaboration extends beyond direct engagements.
The Value of Nearby Colleagues: The thing I’ve missed most is having colleagues down the hallway to bounce ideas off of. Stopping by a teammate’s office to brainstorm an idea could turn into gold, and I’m reminded of how those conversations contributed to my thinking.
Wearing Many Hats: As a sole proprietor, I’ve tackled everything from naming the company and envisioning a logo and website, to solving my own desktop IT issues—tasks that a whole department might have managed in my previous corporate life. It’s been challenging but satisfying.
Looking Ahead to 2025
HSC’s mission is to collaborate with leaders to build inspired work environments that drive meaningful improvements through talent-centric programs that foster connections among employees and align them with company goals and vision.
I’m excited to deepen this work in 2025 and continue partnering with exceptional clients to make an impact. Here’s to the road ahead and all the possibilities it holds.
Onward!
